| With the game at Oldham between the Roughyeds and the Dewsbury Rams postponed due to an unfit pitch, there were just five fixtures played on Sunday in round five of the Kingstone Press Championship.
Both Hull KR, at home to the Eagles, and Featherstone Rovers who were at home to newly promoted Rochdale Hornets, looked to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Elsewhere London hosted Bradford, Batley were at home to Swinton and Halifax took on Toulouse.
Despite taking the lead through Donaldson, Hull KR had an early scare and trailed on the half hour by 10-6 after tries for Sheffield from Straughier and Lo. But the Robins then found their stride and didn't look back as they recorded a big 50-10 win to retain their table-topping form. Cockayne and Heferman both scored before the interval for an 18-10 lead and four second half tries from Quinlan, Clarkson, Abdull and Donaldson were complimented by a total of nine Ellis goals for terrific win.
Featherstone stumbled against Rochdale Hornets and suffered their first loss of the season. It was a real nail-biter as the sides traded penalty goals in the opening thirty minutes, Knowles for Fev' and Palfrey for Rochdale. A Bridge try on thirty-five was converted by Palfrey for 8-2 at the interval. Ulugia scored a try on fifty-five which was converted by Aston for 8-8 and when Knowles kicked a sixty-eighth minute drop goal for 9-8 it looked like Rovers would have the points but a Palfrey penalty goal two minutes from time snatched the points for the visitors and lifted them to fifth spot in the table.
Bradford Bulls two game winning streak came to an end at London Broncos when the home side registered a confident thirty point win. Walker and Kear put the Broncos 12-0 up before a Larroyer try. Garside grabbed a brace and Barthau a single for the home side for 30-6 at the break. Roche got one back for the travelling Bulls in the second half but tries in the last ten minutes for Sammut and Dixon secured the 42-12 win.
Toulouse Olympique XIII finished the weekend in fourth spot with a hard-fought win at Halifax. A Tryer converted try put 'Fax 6-0 ahead but a converted try from Adler levelled the scores. A Tyrer penalty edged Halifax two points ahead when Adler scored a four pointer just before the break the visitors had a 10-8 lead at the interval. A Tyrer penalty on sixty-six made the game all square again and as the sides headed for a draw Maurel kicked a penalty with four minutes left on the clock to grab the points.
The lead changed hands a couple of times at Batley as the Bulldogs took on Swinton Lions. Robinson and Murphy gave Swinton an early 10-0 lead but a Scott try for Batley reduced the arrears to 10-6 before Atkin kicked a penalty for 12-6 at the break. Thornley extended the visitors lead to 18-6 two minutes after the restart but then Batley kicked into top gear. Hallett picked up a brace either side of a second for Scott and although Southernwood only managed a single conversion a Brambini penalty just before the final hooter sealed a 22-18 win for the Bulldogs.
