The second round of the Super League Super Eights kicks off with a Thursday night derby between Wakefield Trinity and the Leeds Rhinos.

The remaining three fixtures take place on Friday night with Minor Premiers elect Castleford Tigers away at fourth placed Salford Red Devils, sixth placed resurgent St Helens looking to jump over their opponent Hull FC into third spot and the bottom two, Wigan Warriors and Huddersfield Giants battling it out at the DW Stadium.

After taking a beating at the hands of the Giants, Wakefield will be keen to find some form and there is nothing better for Trinity fans than getting one over on their rich neighbours from up the road. Chris Chester’s axe has fallen on Mason Caton-Brown as he recalls Jacob Miller, Joe Arundel and Max Jowitt. The Rhinos are full of confidence after a classy and confident win over the Wigan Warriors last time out. Rob Burrow and Mitch Garbutt are both back in the reckoning for the Rhinos, making their comeback from injury.

The bookies fancy Leeds Rhinos to win, with Wakefield getting a +10 start.

Salford Red Devils are starting to fade at just the wrong time in the season but they will still be hopeful of a top four finish and a tilt at the play offs. This weeks game against Castleford will prove whether they have what it takes to get to Old Trafford against a Castleford side still smarting from last weeks loss to Saints. Andy Lynch and Larne Patrick make way for Jake Webster and Gadwin Springer as the visitors look to put themselves within one win of the minor premiership. Salford also make squad changes with Kriss Brinning and Ryan Lannon both being called into the squad.

Castleford are favourites with Salford getting a +8 start.

The game of the round is third placed Hull FC against a Saints side who now look as though they have the belief that they could make it to Old Trafford. Something has to give and The Airlie Birds have made a couple of changes with Marc Sneyd and Josh Bowden coming into the squad in place of Masi Motongo and Jansen Turgut. The home side make just one change with Jake Spedding making the squad in place of Tommy Lee.

Against league position it is the Saints who the bookies fancy, giving FC +6 on the coupon.

Wigan and Huddersfield both know that one more loss will probably signal an end to their top four aspirations. Wigan looked below par in their loss at Headingley last week but the Giants put Wakefield to the sword as they continue their resurgence. Shaun Wane makes just one change with Sam Powell returning from suspension in place of Josh Ganson. Rick Stone has also made just one modification with Michael Lawrence returning to the squad in place of Sam Rapira.

There is only winner for the bookies, a bounce back Wigan victory with the Giants getting +10.
