the latter putting us in a relegation dog fight after his predecessor bought a crap atmosphere into the club.
Paul Cullen secured the safety with 6 games by winning 2 of them.
change is needed now to steady the ship because, at present. I don't know where our next win is coming from'"
Difference is, Powell has a track record of improving sides and playing attractive rugby over 20 odd years.

It’s well over half a season and he knew he was coming half a season before that. I could give you tens of examples of recent SL coaches turning around teams in half the time and you know that.

In the Catalan game we won for a start, and played some better rugby than previous games - that pretty much constitutes shoots - ie signs of things getting better.

So you believe that coaches and anybody else for that matter don't make mistakes? Especially in a new situation where he's tasked with making a clear out. Do you think this was all under Powell's volition, and that the board weren't party to this cultural change? I think you'll find many fans were clamouring for big changes too.

Facetious though it may be, Smith’s team won as many games as we have to date before the end of April. Not including cup.

Tony Smith has a track record of steadying the ship. bringing a challenge cup home to Warrington in 4 months. play attractive rugby. bring in 3 challenge cups. 3 grand final appearances and 2 league leaders shields. then come back after falling out of love with the game. and take a 10th place team to within 80 mins of a grand final.
Id of accepted playoffs at the beginning of the year as i understood it was a transition year. but not what is being served up at this moment.
something needs to be done before its too late.

You make my argument for me. Massive change WASNT needed. Yes we got knocked out of the play offs etc etc but we were qualifying for them consistently and making finals.
Madness to think such a radical overhaul was needed for a team in touching distance in modern RL. Look at Wigan this year, a bit of good man management and careful tweaks and it’s a completely different story.
We’ve gone from nearly men to soon to be relegated.

I really cannot believe people aren't taking this clear out into account when judging this season - I really can't understand this one dimensional perspective.

Very few, because a good coach will adapt their coaching style to get the best from their players who they have been left with. Bring in a culture change progressively, ship out those not wanted and bring in the right new players as and when. You don't off the senior playing squad to such an extent you drag a club down from consistent top four to relegation candidates.
Powell must go. Michael Maguire is out of a job, and Justin Holbrook could be about to be shown the door at Gold Coast. Both are proven Super League winning coaches.

we asked for changes to make us compete. the team we had would of seen us through many of the losses this season and we most likely would be in the 6 now.
this has been a massacre of grand proportions. and instead of steadying things. moving people on at the end of the season to keep continuity. he has butchered the team to make it his.
question. until his release. who was our top try scorer? bad apple or not. you DONT get rid of your top try scorer. you find a way to make it work.

Why should we? There has been no direct address that a clear out was needed, other than from a man scrapping for his job. If there was an attitude change required, then maybe he should have gone about that in a better manner rather than taking the club to the brink.
His job, the bread and butter, is to prepare a team. The team are unprepared. 14 of 17 two weeks in a row at Powell’s men, and this is in July. We’re not at the ‘gelling’ phase, we’re at the ‘if you don’t start winning soon, you’ll be out of a job’ phase.

He’s had enough time! I give up. I admire you sticking with Powell, I hope you’re right but I’m 99.7% certain this won’t end well. At a guess I’d think 70% of wire fans now realise he’s not the man for the job. I believe he’s already created a culture that will NEVER produce results. That may not be entirely his fault but it’s done.

It must be difficult to read with head in the sand, but let me be clear. Whatever he’s doing, it’s not working. The players that HE brought in, aren’t playing for him. This isn’t about the players who have been made a scapegoat of anymore. THREE players that haven’t been signed by Powell have played in the past 2 weeks.
The excuses have ran out. The ‘bad apples’ are gone. We’re 20 games in and are worse than where we were on week one.

Forgive me. i forget who mentioned it earlier in the thread.

you do know tony smith had secured the same amount of points we have now.
Also including challenge cup. tony smiths hull kr side won 9 matches. losing 11. so a win % of 45% this season.
thats still 10 points higher than daryl powell this season.

Mock all you like, but for all of their faults, we were doing much better under Smith and Price than we are now.
This is fast becoming our worst season in [u20 years[/u based on league standings. 20 years of building the club up on field, off field and financially is being disrespectfully thrown away in less than twelve months by an coach out of his depth, and a CEO who is woefully inept and blind to the danger the club is in. Both need to be shown the door on Monday. Ideally sooner.
