From stuff what i have read, He actually didnt want to leave half way through the season, it was Wakefield who decided to sell him to gain a fee and not lose out on him.

Im sure he had been seen a few times saying he just wanted the situation resolved as soon as possible, And although clever by Wakefield to not lose out on him without making a profit, it seemed more that they wanted rid rather then him wanting out now, and not the end of the year.
